About These Guides
California has 58 counties, each with its own clerk-recorder office that issues certified birth certificates. Fees are set statewide at $31 per copy (as of January 1, 2026, per AB 64), though some counties charge additional local surcharges. You can also order from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) for any county — see our guide: How to Get a Certified Birth Certificate.
