About Los Angeles County

Los Angeles County is California's most populous county and one of the original 27 counties created when California became a state in 1850. Throughout the 20th century, the county experienced extraordinary growth — from about 170,000 residents in 1900 to over 9 million by 1990. This population boom means Los Angeles County accounts for a substantial portion of all California birth records in our database.
