About Trinity County
Trinity County is one of the original 27 California counties, created on February 18, 1850. Named for the Trinity River (which Major Pearson B. Reading mistakenly believed emptied into Trinidad Bay), the county's original territory included present-day Humboldt, Del Norte, and part of Siskiyou counties. Weaverville was a major Gold Rush settlement with a large Chinese mining community.
