Siskiyou County was formed in 1852 from parts of Shasta and Klamath counties (Klamath County was later abolished in 1874). Named for the Siskiyou Mountains, the county sits in California's far north bordering Oregon. Yreka, originally called "Thompson's Dry Diggings," was a Gold Rush boomtown and has served as county seat since the county's formation.

Siskiyou County Specifics
Siskiyou County absorbed the former Klamath County when it was abolished in 1874, so some early records from the Klamath County area may be found here. The county uses Permitium for online ordering rather than VitalChek. The office closes for lunch daily from noon to 1 PM.
