San Bernardino County Specifics

San Bernardino County strongly encourages appointments for in-person visits. You should complete the online application first to receive an order number, then book your in-person appointment through the county website. If no record is found, the fee is retained for the search and a "Certification of Search" is issued instead.

Authorized vs. Informational Copies

San Bernardino County issues two types of certified birth certificates:

Authorized copy: Can be used to establish identity (for passports, driver's licenses, etc.). Only available to the person named on the certificate, their parents, legal guardians, or other authorized individuals.
Informational copy: Marked "Informational, Not a Valid Document to Establish Identity." Available to anyone but cannot be used for identification purposes.
